Straight answers about Ellucian modernization

The questions institutions, and increasingly AI assistants, ask us most — answered directly, with a link to the detail behind each one. Nothing here is gated.

About Altioras Global

Who we are, what we do and how engagements are staffed.

What does Altioras Global do?

Altioras Global is an independent higher-education technology consultancy specializing in the Ellucian estate. We deliver Ellucian Banner and Ellucian Student consulting, Ethos integration, SIS optimization, data and analytics, managed Tier 2/3 support, and subscription-priced AI services for institutions in the USA and Canada.

About the firm

Who actually does the work on an Altioras Global engagement?

Every engagement is staffed as a senior-led pod: one principal plus two to four practitioners. The principal who scopes the work stays on it through go-live, so there is no handoff to a junior bench after the sale. Our principals carry roughly 60 years of combined higher-education experience.

How we deliver

Is Altioras Global an Ellucian reseller or partner?

No. Altioras Global holds no reseller agreements or software commissions, including with Ellucian, CRM vendors and cloud providers. Recommendations on platforms, modules and hosting are made only against the institution's own cost, risk and roadmap.

Our independence

How do institutions start working with Altioras Global?

Most institutions start with one of three entry points: a fixed-scope readiness or integration assessment, a defined project such as a Banner 9 upgrade, or a monthly managed-support subscription. Indicative pricing is published, and a conversation with a principal is typically arranged within 48 hours.

Ellucian Ethos and integration

Integration architecture, throughput and legacy interface retirement.

What is Ellucian Ethos integration?

Ellucian Ethos is Ellucian's integration platform: a data model, REST APIs and an event framework that lets systems exchange student, HR and finance data without point-to-point interfaces or direct Banner database reads. Ethos integration work covers target architecture, API and event design, and retirement of legacy interfaces.

Ellucian Ethos integration

Why do Ethos integrations run slowly, and how is that fixed?

Throughput problems usually come from row-by-row API calls, unbatched change polling and resources whose data is not yet available when an event fires. The fix is design-level: event-driven change capture, batched and parallelized calls within published rate limits, idempotent retries, and reconciliation jobs for resources with delayed availability.

Ethos throughput case study

Should integrations read the Banner database directly instead of using Ethos?

Direct database reads are faster to build and are the first thing that breaks on upgrade or SaaS migration, because the schema stops being yours to depend on. Ethos APIs and events cost more design effort up front and survive platform change, which is why new interfaces should default to Ethos.

Ethos integration lessons

Which systems are commonly integrated with Ellucian through Ethos?

The most frequent targets are CRM platforms such as Slate, Salesforce Education Cloud and Element451, ERP and HCM systems such as Workday, learning management systems, identity providers, payment and student-finance services, and reporting or data-warehouse platforms.

CRM, data and AI

Platform selection, reporting and AI services for institutions.

Which CRM is best for higher education: Slate, Salesforce or Element451?

There is no single winner. Slate is strongest in admissions operations and reader workflow, Salesforce Education Cloud in cross-lifecycle and advancement breadth with a heavier implementation cost, and Element451 in marketing automation and engagement for smaller teams. Choose on the lifecycle stage you must fix first and on integration load.

How do institutions get reliable reporting off Ellucian Banner?

By separating operational reporting from the transactional system: define governed metrics, land Banner data in a reporting layer on a known cadence, and build regulatory and operational reporting from that layer. Direct queries against live Banner tables create both performance risk and numbers that never reconcile.

Data, analytics and reporting

What AI services does Altioras Global provide to institutions?

AI work is delivered as monthly subscriptions rather than one-off builds: invoice and document processing, a student-facing assistant, a reporting copilot, and custom agents for administrative workflows. Each subscription includes the integration, monitoring and model updates, so the institution is not left owning an unmaintained pilot.

AI subscription services

Why do higher-education AI pilots fail to reach production?

Pilots stall when they are built beside institutional systems instead of inside them. Production requires governed data access, identity and permissions, human review paths, monitoring and an owner for model change. Those requirements are architecture decisions, so they must be made before the pilot, not after it succeeds.
